It is about time! Those orange space blankets were getting hard to find, only green ones around here.

It's hard to see what's new or different about this model as compared to the durable, grommeted ones that have been around for 20 years or so.

At first blush they look virtually identical to the venerable Grabber's blanket at twice the price. That said, I'd like to try one to see they've improved the classic design.

I just have trouble finding the old ones in orange sometimes. I use them for my scouts. I don't like to give them subdued colors, makes them harder to track down. Another source would be good.

I agree 100%. I consider myself a "survivor" not a "survivalist". While I can envision a scenario when I'd want to escape detection, probably 98% of the time I'll be hoping to be seen. And yeah, the Orange do seem hard to find.
And I guess that $22 is MSRP- probably they'll be cheaper on the open market.

My question is, what size is it? Did anyone also notice the new Escape Bivvy, it looks like it may be a next generation of the Thermal Bivvy. They don't state what percent of your body heat it reflects, but it is breathable. That's a huge plus. I have both the Emergency Bivvy and the Thermal Bivvy and have used the Thermal Bivvy multiple times. I must admit, I'm curious about the new Escape Bivvy, but it sure is expensive!

MEC stocks the red & blue versions of the All Weather Emergency Blanket; they are selling for $15.50. Really, the new AMK product seems very similar to the product above, both are grommeted, reusable and have a reflective side. They are both 5' x 7' and are pretty close in weight (the AMK is spec'd at about 35 grams more). It will be interesting to compare the 2 side by side and see what the differences actually are.

If it is tougher / lighter than a SPACE / casualty blanket I will take it.
And stop whinging about the price. AMK gear has an outstanding quality to price ratio.

For that same price I can buy a 0 degree bag at Big 5 and probably a bivy elsewhere.

Escape bivvy looks nice, they say they have dealt with the condensation issue. I have used the emergency and thermal bivvy in near freezing temperatures, just to see, and they do help a lot, but you always have the moisture.
the Space Blanket is not to be confused with the small foil survival blankets. It is heavier and a bit bulky, but it is durable and has grommets so you can use it as a shelter. It will not fit in your pocket. It is useful as a cover for a blanket of sleeping bag, it is waterproof, windproof and increases heat retention. I have slept in temperatures around 25 degrees Fahrenheit with a poncho liner, wool blanket and Space Blanket and was was surprisingly warm. I usually still carry a Space Blanket in my backpack.

Have you looked on Survival Resources? You'll have to scroll down they stock two types in orange and green, one at $11.95 and on other at $14.95.

I use them as a resource often, but they are often out of the orange, and it is fairly recently that they began carrying them. They have always had the red, but I like the orange as it stands out more. But thanks.

I'm with Phaedrus. Most of my gear is mil-surplus, but I have lots of hi-vis also. In an emergency or accident, I WANT to be seen.
I have been looking for a quality space blanket. Thanks for these links!
