I know we have some really smart techies in the group that may be able to help me with the following project:

I have a small transmitter (Skylink model WD434TL) for a gate open sensor that eats CR2032 batteries. It uses one battery for power. The device works great for a few days when the battery is fresh. It is right on the edge of the transmit/receive range (800ft according to mfgr) Once the battery starts to age, the system becomes useless.

I have AC power with 5 feet of the transmitter. I think if I can give the transmitter full power all the time, it will work. Can someone recommend a power supply/transformer, or link to something that would be a suitable replacement for the CR2032 batteries?

Any ideas to improve the range would be appreciated too. The receiver is a Skylink WD-434RTL. I was thinking about adding 10 ft of wire to the 1 foot of wire provided as an antenna.

I'm not sure if this will help or not yet. I think I need to solve the power problem first.

Manufacturer has been no help with the modification I have in mind.

Thanks

It may not be recommended, but I've had good luck with adding a foot or so to the antenna. Can the receiver be relocated to be closer to the transmitter?

Any transformer that puts out 3 volts DC at roughly 225 mAh should work fine. This one should easily be close enough:

Just cut the end off, meter, and solder in place of battery.

I have a 1200 mAh 3v transformer. I haven't tried it thinking I might fizzle the transmitter. Thoughts?
