I bought a magic heat stove at a tool show. Takes over half an hour to heat soup. It looked like a good set up on the box, but it's basicly an oil candle in a stove. Went to buy a coleman dual fuel but all our wal-marts have gutted thier camping gear in favor of more conventional sports gear like baseballs and physical fitness gear.

Yep to both.

The Kovea Camp 56 is pretty good for a small top-mount canister gas stove.

The thing I find is that WalMart is a) very seasonal and b) frequently out of stock on camping gear, particularly stoves and fuel. I think they are still carrying stuff, but they don't stock much and are frequently sold out. I just stop by whenever I'm by and see what they've got.

Coleman appears to be getting out of the backpacking type stoves business from what I can tell from their website.

Thanks jim. Yup over half an hour. And that's After i sealed the top of my mug witk aluminum foil. Someone mentioned Esbit stoves. Saw a guy at an established camp ground using quick light charcoal briquettes in one. Didn't get a chance to ask how well that worked for him.

I never understood why people put sterno in their kits. I found it hard to even boil water with it much less actually cook anything.

That makes sense. I've notice that the Walmart further into the urban area has a lot less camping/outdoor gear than the one that is another half hour out towards the more mountain/undeveloped areas.
