While I Absolutely love your Mk3 And Mk2 I was Wondering if there is plans for a inexpensive Version of the Mk3? 165$ + S&H is Very Expensive for a novice like myself to justify a knife purchase.

While it may not meet the Quality of the Mk3 is lowering the costs of it to around 60-80$ for say a "Starter Version" Of it be difficult? I See Plenty Of High quality Knives out and about for that price with 440 variety steels or 1095 steels in the same blade length. Maybe Ditching the stonewash finish for a Simple satin or such? Changing Handle materials and lowering the robustness of the sheath?

All I know is If there was a 60-80$ Version of the mk3 With Little To no changes to the Actual Style and shape/size Of the blade I would be ALL OVER IT in a heartbeat.

I gotta say, a 440 or even one of the alphabet European blends would be a nice alternative. I can do $100 for a knife. Much more than that and my wallet yells more than my wife.

No offense to Doug on his knife design but if cost is an issue try a Mora Companion or Mora 711. Both together could cost you about $25 and are super sharp, fine steel and will hold up to about anything. A highly recommended alternative to a semi-custon knife.

Sorry, but we do not comment of future plans. Thanks for expressing your interest. There are lots of decent $60 knives out there, but my RSK Mk3 is not one of them. You'll note that most less expensive knives are mass produced...

I agree ... the Mora knives provide great low-price fixed blade alternatives. Though I carry the Mk3 every time I'm in the outdoors, and I own and enjoy the Mk2, I have and use several different models of Mora knives.

They are awesome knives for the low cost and are great outdoor knives to carry while saving up the money for the COMPLETELY WORTH IT Ritter Mk3 and Mk2.

In all fairness to DR, I actually have one of his knives. Never used it ... mainly b/c it's the full size MK1 and I prefer the smaller Griptilian handle. I make do with smaller knives in my daily carry.

That being said, I have a few Mora's that are fun, but not carried often either.

It's not a slight on either of them, but rather I just don't have need for those knives in my suburban lifestyle. A CRKT does just fine. If/when I go camping, they come along (should tell you how long it's been since I've gone camping!)

So, while you may not comment on future endeavors, please know you'd probably sell quite a few "Volkswagon" type of knives smile

I have an MK1 folder. I love it. I carry it almost every day (in my pack) and so far its been absolute bombproof. I've even used it as a Baton cutting wood for fires. I've owned only one, the same can not be said for all the Buck, Spyderco, and Gerbers that I have chipped, snapped or broke over the years. Since getting the Mk1, there is only one other folder I will carry with me that I like as much, only cause it has a one hand open/close system and a can opener on the end.

I have a bunch of Barkies, a mound of Moras and a bushel of Beckers. Hands down the one knife I would grab if I could grab only one:

Doug's MK3

I feel like it can do everything all the others can plus it is relatively light and very nicely balanced (I'm a woman with average size female hands). And the price has stayed the same since its introduction several years ago. It really is a good value.

If another was produced with those dimensions and weight, I'd snap it up. I'm not picky on the metal.
