Last night on public television they had an hour show on this group of people (Frenchmen, Germans, and Swedish) who study glaciers and their movements in France. They study them to try to predict when a glacieral lake may burst and flood a town. They even have caves built within the glaciers so they can measure the movement of the ice. Very interesting time laspe photography involved. The crew also dove into water that was way below freezing to map caves and water pockets in the glaciers. One crewman stated "I think my lips are frozen." after returning from a dive into the waters. It was the only part of his body that wasn't insulated. The 3 man dive crew also each had a backup respirator when diving, only one of which hadn't been used by the time they surfaced. Definately an "ultimate career" as these are some of the few glaciologists doing this research.
