Some days, as I sit behind the PC preparing yet another presentation or project plan, I, too, long for employment that provides more opportunity for excitement. A friend of mine who is a police officer and a member of the local tactical unit (SWAT) talks about the training they receive and the skills they learn, and my eyes get glassy like a kid in a candy store. I can't get enough, and I keep the guy talking for hours, which he doesn't mind. Jokingly, I asked him what the guys at the precinct would think about a 30-year old rookie. He said they get 60-year old rookies from guys that retire from the military or other kinds of work. Still, as interesting and as noble a profession as it is, I don't think I could quite handle the pay cut at this time with two children and a stay-at-home wife.
