The other day I wrote a comment about different communities in my area and mentioned a few differences like their love for the desert versus our love for greener areas. Actually , there is a bigger difference which their HUGE interest in genealogy, while in my community it is a personal ineterest of a few . For me personally, it is not in my list of interests at all.

In any case, I thought to throw the question :
Do you think there is any use of genealogy in preparedness ??

One thing is obvious in my area of the world : If you mention your last name to a person whose last name is linked to yours , you may gain an advantage for a favor or two. Tribal links are still warm. But other than that, can you see anything else ??

Suppose you are a 4th generation descendant of a Russian, Italian , Irish or Scottish immigrants. Suppose your 3rd generation elders were tribal chiefs or kings of an African tribe, or or anything simiar. Will that be good or bad in any emergency/survival situation ??

Or do you think that emergencies fuse all these issues in one lump of "live or die" ??

I don't forseen any use for it myself.

Really really really morbid thought: it could help in locating next of kin.

Hobbies are not a bad thing.

I'm very involved in it personally, but don't see where it would be much related to preparedness. But it's awesome to find civil war and revolutionary war tombstones and such from relatives.
