Hello All ,

Phew!!!

FINALLY got to login and post here. After multiple e-mails to both Doug and Chris ( who were as confounded as I was. ) I decided to play around and see what, if anything I could do.

I had done everything up to and including creating other accounts trying to gain the ability to post to this site, with no sucess whatsoever. Chris sent me instructions that had worked in the past with other people having the same difficulty getting on the site as registered users. I tried all of the suggested fixes but, no dice..

Today I decided to "play with the system" ( I use windows 98). I went to the "tools" tab and clicked on Internet Options. I cleared all my cookies and temporary internet files just to clear the deck, and then went to the "privacy" tab and opened it. On the bottom there was a section called "web sites" . I pressed the "edit" button and a small screen opened that was titled "per site privacy actions" - this manages cookie handling of web sites- ( you should have very few in the "managed web sites" box at the bottom). Much to my amazement the site "equipped.org" was tagged as Always Block, "equipped.org" was tagged Always Allow.. I entered equipped.org in the line provided and clicked the Always Allow button.

After doing this I went to my desktop and Right clicked on my Zone Alarm ( the firewall I use on my home PC) button to view and possibly adjust my firewall settings. I set my "progarm control" to Low, cookie control to "off". ( my internet explorer is also set to accept all cookies as well ). I closed all programs and re-booted my computer and re-established an active internet connection.

Then, I came to the Equipped web site and attempted to login and did something different... After going to the forum page and clicking on "login" ( and entering my username and password ) I clicked on the button above the login area for the "my home" ( I think thats what it was ) of bat69 ( my username) In all other attempts I had scrolled down to the applicabe section and "clicked" the edit button . In this window I was allowed to edit my password, enter a bio, signature, etc...

I immediately came here to the forum and posted, so I have NO idea if the site will let me back onto it as a registered user. After posting this I'll reattempt to get onto the site and will post if I'm able to.

Geeze, surviving in the woods seems to be easier than surviving the internet!

Matt

Redundancy in computer apllications isn't all that helpful at times. I can think of 4 applications I use that, if allowed would all try and control cookies. All have other roles, but limiting their functions (ie reading the options and switching off anything that clashes) simplifies life.
At worst conflicting applications cause problems big enough to crash your PC, and possibly damage your system files.

Glad you've succeeded - Welcome
