Hi guys I've been looking for some decent thick absorbent 27 x 27" bandanas for a while but as I live in the UK their not as common as in the US I haven't had much luck (poor quality ect). I thought I'd try your side of the pond.

Would anyone mind pointing me in the direction of a good source or brand please?

I don't mind to much about the design, any paisley or plain ones would do just fine but I would be open to anything else as well.

REI or L L Bean for starters. REI has the more extensive selection, some with insect repellent for a somewhat higher price.

Here's a source with reasonable shipping rates to UK. Most bandanas I have seen lately are made in China, and are a little on the thin side. Colors are OK, but occasional issues with fraying edges. I just buy them in bulk and toss them when they wear out.

EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) has some too, including cool tie-dye ones.

I pick mine up at Dollar General. I'm pretty rough on them as I use them for everything except nose blowing. Although I still have one from my Jr High days, and I just turned 40 last year

That way, you'll be getting a good quality material, get to choose whatever size/color you want, AND save money.

I often carry bandanas in my pack but my EDC box has a GI issue triangular sling aka 'drive on rag'. And I almost always have a buff in my pack as well. Buffs have so many purposes.

I think they're all made in the same factories now. Just make sure its 100% cotton. If you want something a little nicer, you can get large silk bandanas from JingleBobs. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

I just buy tea stained muslin. Very cheap 100% cotton fabric. Sold everywhere that sewing materials are sold. Just nick the edge at the size you want and tear.

I never hem it. unraveling is not much of a problem. When it gets to "ratty" looking, I trash it and make another.

I usually carry several. A small one for the occasional rag. A medium one I use as a towel, sit on, or strain junk from water. A large one I use as a shawl or head cover in the desert. Wet it and cover your head. Almost too cold...

Very useful item.
