Overall, a good popcorn movie, but fairly low marks for survival skills.

The only somewhat helpful tips that someone might've gleaned:

-- Rescue, if it comes at all, isn't always immediate.

-- Always keep your seatbelt on during an airplane flight.

-- Airplane fuel can be repurposed for torches, etc.

-- Makeshift spears can be fashioned from fire-hardened sticks.

-- If you wear glasses/contacts, have a second pair available.

As to actions that were not particularly helpful to emulate (meaning most of the movie) the worst offenders IMO were:

-- leaving the plane in the first place.

-- not making a snow shelter.

-- trying to cross a high ravine by having a guy connected to an ineptly tied clothing-bungee jump across it.

-- falling into an icy stream, but then not attempting to make a fire ASAP upon getting out. (Liam's character must've been superhuman. His teeth weren't even chattering!)

Byrd, what can I say? You make your point most convincingly. I stand corrected! It would seem that you are situated in a part of the country originally settled by Scandinavians with very good genes......

ANY ACTION MOVIE TRIGGERS THOUGHTS!

1. Always have your PLB with you.
2. Always stow your CARRY ON BAG under the seat in front of you.
3. Use the kevlar/cable/leather shoulder strap to snap to your Galco Instructors belt.
4. Always fly wearing layers of correct clothing.
5. Cables and wire make good snares.
6. Read: ALIVE, THE DONNER PARTY and LIVER EATING JOHNSON.
7. How to make a torch that lasts more than a few minutes?
8. Damn, I sure hope I can find my CHECKED BAG!

It wasn't a survival movie. I still enjoyed it.
