I was surfing and came across an interesting survival suit. It looked like it was made out of orange woven poly similar to blue tarp material. It had a hood, a front zipper, and elastic. It fit the wearer kinda like a mummy bag. It didn't look insulated, but did look wind and waterproof for the most part. I thought it might be the cat's pajamas for putting in my primary. Anyone got any ideas? I can't find the site again, even after browsing my history (must've been buried in a page).

I dunno if I can post a link here, but here goes:

http://www.epcamps.com/Thermal_Protective_Aid.html

That's the site I was looking for. Obviously not built for mobility, but practical for overnight in nastiness? Might just be worth trying, of course I may be too tall for it (I really hate one size fits all claims).

Doug has a discussion of Thermal Protective Aids, though he doesn't mention that particular one:

FWIW: I keep hooded TyvekŪ "moonsuits" in vehicles and primary ready packs. They are deliberately sized overly large for several reasons. A TyvekŪ envelope, repeatedly crushed and fluffed (by hand) turns into a flexible and tough bag to stow a tightly rolled "moon suit" - the self-adhesive flap serves multiple purposes if cut off and used as a piece of TyvekŪ repair tape. The whole bundle gets bound with 2-3 ranger bands from a fat-tire bike inner tube.

Very lightweight, compact, and versitile/adaptable bit of "spare clothing" for a very low cost (in case-lot purchases).

A little over a month ago I had to take a hazmat course, and we had to suit up in tyvek disposable enviro suits and SCBA. We then walked around outside for about 10 minutes. It was about 20 degrees outside, with a 15 mph wind constant (normal for these parts). I had a tee shirt and jeans on inside the suit, and I must say I stayed quite a bit warmer than I thought I would. The suit is slightly ventilated (one way valve so you don't puff up like the stay puft marshmallow man from the SCBA venting into the suit). If I'd have had a wool sweater and some good thermal underwear on, I could've stayed out in that for the rest of the day I'm sure. Without the suit, I was uncomfortable inside of a minute, and that with a moderate jacket and cap even. Perhaps I don't need to be spending > $50.00 after all.
