We read and hear so many stories of people being unprepared, I thought it might be nice to hear about the other end of the spectrum.

From Russia:

Galina Sinelnikova went hunting on December 8, 2011 in the Altai Republic part of Russia. (This is in the area of Siberia bordered by China, Kazakastan and Mongolia.)

She wasn't reported missing until January 31.

She was found alive by local SAR on Feb. 5th, living in a "hunters hut."

Even with a cabin, two months alone in the Siberian winter impresses me. If we had such an award, I'd nominate her for "Best Survivor of the year." I would love to hear the details.

The details will be interesting. I'll bet they show her to be a pretty good hunter.

Leonid Rogozov was also of Siberian stock. He operated on his own appendix in Antarctica. When I told my friend about Rogozov, his reply was "in mother Russia, appendix remove YOU!".

Wow, that's quite the tale of survival. Kudos to a tough and resourceful woman. BUT...how the heck does it take 2 months to missed? Even my social life is better than that!

given that most russian news media is about as reliable as the star or enguirer, I would not put much stock in the story, especially with no details at all.
