Just saw this over at gizmodo... a folding paper pot that can be used to boil water. I know variants of folding/collapsible water containers have been done but it's always nice to see another, and it looks pretty neat.

Yes, it certainly is different - nice and compact. If I read correctly,it is vaporware unless they receive $25,000 in advance sales within the next few weeks. I would feel more comfortable with a container I could use more than three times.

I could find no mention of capacity. By my crude calculations, the large size holds roughly 500cc, half a liter. I would prefer something that could sterilize more than one and a half liters of water in an emergency situation.

I'd rather stick to more durable, versatile and reusable designs but I give them high marks for creativity and thinking outside the box. That would probably work better than a sheet of aluminum foil, albeit it's not as versatile.

I've pledged at the $15 level. If it gets funded, and if they produce a product and get it to me as promised, I'll write a review here.

Yeah, I give this guy no marks for creativity or thinking outside of the box, because being an engineer, he learned this trick in school, so it required zero creativity on his part.
He may have even used the internet smile

I do give this guy negative marks

* for not disclosing volume ( by my estimate 16 fl oz and 28 fl oz )
* for trying to pull a fast one, trying to charge $15 for four paper take out boxes,
when for $6.90 you can buy a 50 pack of 16oz SQUARE paper takeout boxes 3-1/2x2-7/8x3-1/2" ,
or for $4 you can buy a 50 pack of 16oz paper cups
even if you pay for custom printing, it is still cheaper than $15 for four

update: revised volume estimate
41.198336 fl oz = 1.2183802 liter
76.275739 fl oz = 2.2557428 liter
149.2 in3 = 82.673593 fl oz = 2.4449499 liter
$14.99 for 40 Microwavable Paper Take Out Box 7 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 3 1/2"

still TONS cheaper than $15/4
i'm sure it could get cheaper and still work if you go for paper baking pans

The project wasn't funded. It reached $3,653 of their $25,000 goal. My $15 pledge won't be charged to me.
