The Caldera Cone really is a nice system. If I'm out for a few days, and I want to go light, it really works well for that.
It's a bit pricey, but I really like good stoves. Keep in mind that I'm the guy with a zillion stoves.
Hikermor has some good advice:
Ho over to Jim Wood's Base Camp and you will see a pretty decent set up - his "Fire Bucket" windscreen and pot holder is a cheap, decent windscreen that is quite effective, although as HJ says, not as efficient as the Caldera Cone. Cost is easily under five bucks.
I'm not trying to knock the Caldera Cone. It really is a good system. But there are a lot of other options out there that are far cheaper.
I played around with alcohol stoves for a while before deciding that the Caldera Cone was worth picking up. I picked up a couple of used ones for my use and for my experiments.
Again, I'm NOT knocking the Caldera. I'm just saying there are a lot of options out there.
