this came up on the BWCA.COM site tonight.Mule Tape is used to pull wire thru conduits and is often tossed away being so cheap.
it's strong and lite but sounds like there might be issues with knots and the open weave if it's used as a rope.anyone have any experience with this?.the link is to a review over at a hiking site.

I use poly-nylon 1" mule tape,Alot & It is some tough stuff,knots have no ill effects on mine,however cinched figure-8's & bloodknots for example,Will require needle-nose pliers or a marlin spike to undo,so be mindful of such.I use a fishtape for pulling wire myself,never heard of muletape doing the same,it's not stiff enough to feed,though it could be shot with co2 on ug conduit I suppose!

If thats the same stuff we used back when I pulled cable, its easy to cut your fingers on.

We always used electrical tape to pull wires doing alarm system installs and I can't recall a failure, and that was usually pulling through walls with insulation and obstructions, not conduit. Can't say if mule tape is better (maybe for larger wire bundles?) or has other special uses, but if so have at it. My tape pantheon runs electrical tape > gaffers tape > duck (duct) tape.

We have used it during elk season to pull them up to a road. It is light weight and very strong, but with age it will lose it's strength.
