By the way, if anyone have an idea of a survival app - let's discuss.

An SDR radio app, which could connect via USB to a Funcube Dongle Pro+ would be useful rather than using a on line server.

So, outside of getting stuck in a tunnel or cave, I can solve the smart phone power drain issue.

My travel setup exactly! Just drop in their Guide 10 Plus battery pack with 4 eneloops.

The SDR radio service is already available for some android phones with FM radio chip onboard (I have used it with my old HTC HD2 smartphone, it's amateur development project on the XDA-forums). Works well with supporting GPS car navigation apps.

The Funcube dongle is a 3rd party hardware. To use it with the phone we need the device driver for Android from the manufacturer first.

I downloaded glSDR21.apk on my Windows PC from

http://code.google.com/p/sdr-widget/downloads/list

and transferred the app to a el cheapo Ployer Momo 9 tablet using the app 'WiFi File Transfer' and installed it.

The list of SDR radio servers shown below is a bit limited but it has turned to Ployer Momo 9 into an Internet HF (SW) receiver etc and works reasonably well.

The Funcube uses standard Windows, Linux MacOS drivers and these computers should just see the Dongle as a 196KHz soundcard. I'm not to sure about Android devices though!

There are a few good first aid apps, one I like is
"First Aid by British Red Cross",
but I have a few other, similar apps too (Android)

For foraging "Wild Edibles" (free) is OK
