Almost finished reading The Humanure Handbook by Joseph Jenkins. Excellent book. Not overly technical, just gets you into the basics of what happens in a compost pile, and how to properly manage one. Also talks about how how waste is processed, septic systems, etc. I can't recommend this book enough.

Anyone else read it?

Yes, he did a good job. He even answers questions that you haven't thought of yet.

He's also had the lab testing done, to make sure what he thought was happening really was. It isn't just theory.

The book comes in the paper version, but is also available as a read-only or downloadable version online.

But while many people are intensely interested in all the gear for getting prepared, I fear they skip right over sanitation, despite its importance in a disaster.

When I saw the aerial views of all the cars lined up on the freeways trying to escape Rita or Katrina, I though how useful they could have been!
