I agree, seems like a smokin' bright LED flashlight with rechargeable batts is the way to go.
BTW, jzmtl, I've glanced at some of the HID lights but I don't know what I'd use them for. And I live in the country. I can light up anything I need to for a quarter mile or so; anything more seems like overkill. YMMV.
