Sure, but it always comes down to how much you got.

Really, it depends on what you want to do.

There are HID "aircraft landing light" spotlights that run for 30 min. tops, along with lots of horrible halogen cheapies that run about the same time. Most of these are built to the "highly disposable" standard. When you need them most, they'll be mostly dead.

But there are some pretty decent LED spotlights out there. They may still use sealed lead-acid (SLA), but have a much longer run-time and a much better shelf life. For example, I picked up a Black & Decker LED spotlight, rechargeable SLA, that pumps out a nice white beam at 220+ lumens and is still alive after a year of occasional use and general kicking around. Runtime is listed at about 6 hrs., and I believe it. Paid about $20. Wish I could find a spare.

The range of rechargeable spotlights is quite staggering. I have cheap halogen lights with SLA batteries previously made by Vector which is now owned by Black and Decker and I've got a Maxabeam that I picked up cheap on eBay a few years ago. If you let us know how much you want to spend and your intended use, I'm sure the lot of us can come up with some good suggestions for you.

LED doesn't really have a power for a spotlight, which is commonly in the 1000+ lumen region, and 3000+ for HID, unless you are talking about those tiny handheld with pistol grip, then you might as well buy a LED flashlight with big reflector.

Doug have you seen the motomaster HID at CT? they are pretty good for the price when on sale, and lasts an hour or so.

Lee sounds like you just need a good flashlight, something like this and some rechargeable batteries.

I agree, seems like a smokin' bright LED flashlight with rechargeable batts is the way to go.

BTW, jzmtl, I've glanced at some of the HID lights but I don't know what I'd use them for. And I live in the country. I can light up anything I need to for a quarter mile or so; anything more seems like overkill. YMMV.

To be honest me neither. I've looked at it many times but always left without because I can't think of any realistic use for it.

There are several new LED flashlights that will fit the bill so long as you don't want/need more than a few hundred yards of throw. A few years ago I would have called that a spotlight.

I have a Fenix TK35 and have been very happy with it out to two or three hundred yards. There are several similar lights that put out a comparable number of lumens while focusing that light into a hotter, farther reaching beam.

ETA: The TK35 is 820 lumens and is $92.09 shipped from Amazon (at this moment). It runs on 4 CR123 cells or 2 Li-ion 18650 rechargeable batteries. I run mine on 18650s but I always keep an extra set of 18650s charged and primary CR123s on hand as well.

for under $100 you can get a fenix TK21 that puts out up to 468 lumens, runing on two 123 batteries or a lithium-ion rechargeable.
