Really, it depends on what you want to do.
There are HID "aircraft landing light" spotlights that run for 30 min. tops, along with lots of horrible halogen cheapies that run about the same time. Most of these are built to the "highly disposable" standard. When you need them most, they'll be mostly dead.
But there are some pretty decent LED spotlights out there. They may still use sealed lead-acid (SLA), but have a much longer run-time and a much better shelf life. For example, I picked up a Black & Decker LED spotlight, rechargeable SLA, that pumps out a nice white beam at 220+ lumens and is still alive after a year of occasional use and general kicking around. Runtime is listed at about 6 hrs., and I believe it. Paid about $20. Wish I could find a spare.
