I commuted 74.8 miles - EACH WAY - for almost 14 years.
While for most of that time, I took a bus (18 miles one way from home to the bus) the part of the drive that was horrible, hopeless, without pity, was the part from the NJ Turnpike Exit 18 to the Lincoln Tunnel - Rt. 495.
Let me give you an idea of how bad it is.
Here's a
Google Map with the route from Clinton NJ (where I'd get the bus) to the Lincoln Tunnel.
You see the word "Union" in "Union City" on the right side of the map? That stretch of road took as long - and often longer - to get through than the whole rest of the ride.
There were at least 20 times over the course of the years of commuting that it took me over 6 hours to get home, due to snow, road closures and mechanical issues.
My commute is still 1Hr 10 Minutes each way, but it's reliably so, with only about once a month where it gets over 2 hours.
