This brand new Leatherman was introduced in web articles in December 2003. The EL is a microtool meant for working with electronics and will be sold exclusively via RadioShack (!). I Googled for it and got a ton of hits -- every one of them a gay and/or pornographic web site. I can't find more info on it.

Craig:

I got one for Xmas. Its a nice little tool but your are not going to use the pliers for anything but electrical work. There is a small gripping area at the nose and a small shearing area at the base but the rest of it is milled into wire stripping slots. It is definitely well made and just right for the electronic hobbiest. I don't think it is a good survival tool though.

IMO, it's a little expensive for the features it has. But some of the reviews have been good on it.

I did in fact see one in Radio Shack just prior to Xmas. It looks like a miniature wire stripper sized from 18 to mabey 8 ga wire where the scissors on the Micra would be. A couple of other tools as well. I did not pull it out and play with it though.

Thanks for the replies. No wonder I was unable to find it. Searching for "Leatherman EL" is not the same as searching for "Leatherman 9-in-1 Precision Tool."

I have one of these, too. Honestly, I wish that I had a Squirt with pliers.

It was just a situation of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) that hit me. At the time that I picked it up, I was looking for a Squirt and couldn't find one ANYWHERE around except for this model at Radio Shack...or mailorder.

They have actually been out for a few months. About twice the price ($40) of a regular squirt. The + screwdriver and file are nicer that the other two squirts and the wire stripper is pretty decent as well.

I saw one the other day at Radio Shack, looks like a nice little key chain tool, but unless the price comes down, I do not think I will be owning one. Pete
