I have had mine for about 28 years now. I rebuilt it about 10 years ago only because I was getting a little jet of flame out the valve gland. Did it on a scout camping trip in the dirt. I did deep six the pot holder and pot. Never liked it anyway.

Yeah, a lot of the time I substitute a "real" pot rather than using the little pot/cap that came with the stove. I will say that for a solo day hike, the pot/cap that comes with the stove is great for making a cup of tea.

i found that the lid from a Trangia tea pot fits the 123 pot just right.now i use that pot for making minute rice as a pot with a lid makes the rice come out right.the lid from a large Trangia clone tea pot switches places when i need a tea pot with a lid on hikes.that lid will also fit the cup on the Swiss "ranger stove"
a good gear game is finding a pot that is just the right fit for the 123.i was using the square Coleman kit for awhile as i could fit more stuff inside,like the 123's pot and lid combo and some odds and ends.

Interesting. That's good to know that the lid from a Trangia tea kettle will fit a Svea 123 pot. I usually bring a square of folded up aluminum foil, but a real lid would be nice. Thanks for that and all the other info.

I have a 123R that has been stored for years.

Might have some old fuel in it too.

What is the best way to clean out the system? Is flushing the thank with new fuel enough of a cleaning?

Rinsing out your old Svea 123R with fresh fuel may be enough. I'd drain it, flush it, fill it 3/4, and then let it sit a while before trying to light it.

I'd also see that the valve turns smoothly and that the gasket in the tank cap doesn't have any cracks and still has at least some pliability. If the gasket is cracked or hard as a rock, you'll need to replace the gasket.

Be really careful of course when firing up an old stove. Do it outdoors away from anything flammable and all that.
