This sounds like a great idea. You could keep some in the car, or in your own commuter bag, for those unexpected trapped situations ... not that it happens all that often:

- in the vehicle in winter with cold snow and rain
- in the vehicle and stuck in traffic - during a major chaos event
- stuck in a lift / elevator

The L.A. subway system has NO toilets on trains, and none on the platforms either. They also don't have toilets close by the exits - when you come off the platforms. So if you need to answer nature's call, better plan ahead and be prepared to hold it while travelling ... or be prepared to RUN quickly when you reach a station!!

After up-grading to a plastic bucket on the boat during our annual fishing trip recently, I'd suggest double-bagging or industrial strength, and maybe some sort of privacy.

Going in a bucket with your best friends around is very different than going in front of everyone on public transit.

All thay said, a bag is better than nothing. Be prepared!

I'd have to check but I do think Holland is bigger than NYC, but point taken. I''m just glad Amtrak hasn't gone the plastic bag route.

Not quite as crazy as you might think:

I remember seeing a post about these pee-jelly bags some time ago - perhaps at ETS? Anyway, having these stashed away in a train seems like a pretty good idea. Most people can delay #2 a few hours - but #1... whey you gotta go, you really gotta go...

In a rural setting with just a single track you could just open the doors and let people take care of business, but you really can't do that when you have multiple tracks with other trains on them. There might be other very good reasons not to open the doors: Downed power lines, or the fact that you don't want clueless passengers wandering all over the place and fail to get back on the train before it starts moving again.
