I just purchased a case sod buster jr not 20 minutes ago and first thing that happend the blade got away from me and snapped shut putting a 2/8ths dent in the edge. The blade is pretty darn stiff which I didnt expect and hits hard on the metal ridge of the back spring spacer thing. I honestly do not understand why it has to connect with the metal back spacer when closing/shut.

Anyone else notice this on other brand sod busters? Anyone else have these issues on any other knives? Is it a design flaw or just a mishap flaw? It definitely opts out one handed closing and quick closing without care as holding the blade firmly and guiding it slowly to close it is needed.

I personally love that knife and probably gifted a dozen of them over the years. I've never had a problem or had someone come back to me noting a problem with the blade making contact with the frame.

I'd take it back. And realize that b/c of the design it has no spine lock, so the blade will be closing under more pressure.

Common in slip joints actually, just don't let it snap shut.

When I was in the Navy we would run a length of oiled cotton line along the spine. It prevented the blade from contacting the spine and the oil kept the carbon steel blades from rusting along the blades. You need to ensure that the cord isn't under the heel of the blade.this would prevent full closier...
