Training the dog to not run out the door at any available opportunity would seem to be a good idea in bear country.

They're not called 'weiner dogs' for nothing, you know.

Not the first time this has happened. A Montana women chased a black bear off with a vegetable last year. Apparently, going nuts does work sometimes with the bruins.

FYI, Dachshunds were originally bred to go after badgers. Tenacity, stubbornness, and a strong prey drive are a big part of their personality. Strictly average intelligence (B***sy, but not too bright).
