It's nothing new, you just haven't seen the right movies! H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds (radio broadcast, 1938; movie, 1953), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Invaders from Mars (1953), and the hilariously bad Plan Nine from Outer Space (1959), etc.
Alright, I've gotta rent these movies, after watching Cowboys and Aliens. After I'm done I'll let you guys know which aliens I'd fight to the death against, which I'd surrender to, and I'd mate with.
So when did the anal probe thing get started? Is it mostly an 80s phenomenon?

Have to agree. A population thats uninformed, broke, and restless is far more scary than aliens.
