Went for a flashlight a few nights ago...and they were all in the same place (far from where I was)...and none with charged batteries. Time to add that to the monthly 'check' list.

I have plenty -- Just have to learn not to store them all in the same drawer.

We have a similar problem at work (a small store, basically): All our flashlights, old with incandescent bulbs and weak batteries (the boss refuses to change batteries until they're completely dead), are in a single drawer near the entrance. The main area, when the power goes out, is lit from the walls by a few of those common emergency light units. The offices and warehouse areas are completely SOL when the power goes out.

Yet somehow our boss doesn't understand why we want more, and better dispersed, flashlights. It's not like we don't have places to store them.

On more than one occasion now my edc LED flashlight has come in handy when storms have knocked out power. Yet somehow our boss thinks that it's fine, since I was able to check the warehouse (in case any employees were back there) and take a spare flashlight to the office.

I've even NOT been there on a couple occasions when power has dropped (it's fairly old infrastructure), but this still hasn't affected our boss's opinion.

I have flashlights scattered throughout the house. I'm well organized: at any one time, I can actually find almost 50% of them. grin

kinda, like idea...after the 04/05 hurricane season, a shooter friend that was a principal at a Polk County, Florida high school (Polk county is inland, but all three major storms crossed through)and I were exchanging lessons learned ideas from our experiences...his comments about his shelter duty at his school prompted the inclusion of a split key ring attached to my primary flashlights by plastic cable tie... could be clipped to my key ring snap or via light weight caribiner to a belt or beltloop...

anybody have a heads up on a <$20 LED AA headlamp?

Searching for "LED headlamp AA" and sorting by price found a number of options. Granted, I have no idea which are actually trustworthy products.

You noted a common problem. No matter how much I say I'll check flashlights regularly, I end up slacking off eventually.

What I've decided to do is keep a fully functioning flashlight in my personal man bag at all times. I also keep fresh batteries in a spot I could find in the dark. As for the flashlights around the house, I can try to keep their batteries fresh, but I'm realistic with myself.

Go to Home Depot and get the 2-pack of the Brinkmann AAA Headlamps - http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardware-...atalogId=10053. They come with batteries. They cost about $11 here in Upstate NY. They are great. Sorry, I do not know how to make the link smaller.

Sounds like someone doesn't give a s... about what happens to his employee's. Mind you, why should he when he has a Shmuck of a preper to assume the cost and responsability for him?

Time for you to move job's methinks.

Appos of that:

As some of you are aware, my late beloved was from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Her Mother (GoGo) still lives there and has to contend with 12 power out's every day. I've just sent her two two L.E.D. camping lanterns (powered by 4 x AA batteries), a universal speed charger which comes with 4 x 2000ma batteries and 3 additional packs of batteries.

Total outlay?

£40.

Consider reversing a flashlight battery, the easiest one to get to and turn around, to cut the electrical circuit during storage.

Consider adding the rechargeable lights that come on only when there is a power outage.

Consider sets of rechargeable batteries left in a charger rather than in flashlights.

Consider the combination.
