How about a deck of cards in your survival kit? Matter fact How about a deck of cards the size of your thumb? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038EL...MWAEXAMYFB8AKFZI have to admit I felt like a dork and a half purchasing these at the store but Now in my "two" man survival kit I have a neat little deck of playing cards to boost morale. I Remembered on One of Ray Mears show's They showed a couple who stayed entertained by drawing out a deck of cards using their notepad and figured they weight nothing they take little space and they would spare what paper I need for notes and not cards.

I like both ideas! I usually carry a normal size deck of cards and am fond of cribbage but have not thought to look for either in compact sizes - until now! Thanks.

The theory of carrying a deck of cards is that you are lost and alone, far from civilisation. You stop, assess your surroundings, have a cup of tea and start to play patience.
Within ten minutes someone will lean over your shoulder and say "put the black Jack on the red Queen".

Ouch! $8.59 for a mini deck of cards? That seems a bit high, but maybe not for something so unique. I carry a small deck of cards, but not nearly as small as the ones you're talking about. I have a 2-1/2 x 1-3/4 inch set of Hoyle cards from gofastandlight.com. They weigh 2oz. The price was $1.49. http://www.gofastandlight.com/Miniature-Playing-Cards/productinfo/FU-P-O003/

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought Frisket was advocating the playing of strip poker, as long as you didn't have anything else to do...
Of course, it would depend on who you were stranded with.

You should be able to find similar-sized decks for a lot less. A store in my neighborhood has them (perhaps just a little larger but not by much) for $0.99.

Don't get your hopes up. Susan's a railroader...probably the best card player on the forum.

I have several miniature decks of Bicycle brand playing cards that I picked up at REI ten years ago or more. They are not cheap cards and have held up well. I have a couple of decks that are pretty ragged and a couple that are unopened. I've paired my backpacking weight down over the years to a level that most would consider ultra-light but I always manage to carry one of those tiny decks of cards anyway. Edited to add: I thought that both players eventually won at a strip poker game anyway.

I'm familiar with:
Show 'n tell Post Office Pony express (like P.O.-only more horsing around) Strip poker and maybe a couple others I can't think of right now.... But what is 'wild edibles'? Sounds intriguing, and it can involve cards? :-) Tell me more..... :-)

BOATMAN John That's not a bad idea. That would be proof that pocket knives have amusement potential beyond mumbley peg.
