Hello, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to share one little idea. I carry in my wallet a piece of tinder when sparked (or lit) gives about a 1-2 min burn time. Not really a new idea, but perhaps a novel way to have ready tinder. Put half a cotton ball/petroleum jelly tinder in a small foil packet. Tuck it away in your wallet (try not to forget it) until you need it. I posted some video @ youtube dantercor. But really, if you've ever done hobo dinners and made cotton ball tinder, you got the idea. tton ball tinder, you got the idea.

Welcome to the forum Dan!

Great idea! Small enough to be easy, unobtrusive EDC and very practical.

Hi DanC, welcome to the forum.

I carry some cotton wool in may wallet, but not soaked in PJ because of the risk of leakage in my wallet which is very full of all sorts of EDC junk, (and lots and lots of money), so its a bit of a squish.

I guess one could use lip balm (or similar) and have it double as an emergency sypply of balm too - for those who need such things - just got to check that it still lights and burns nicely.

I have kept some in the little foil package I make and have not had any leakage. It's about half as thick as a condom style water jug. Besides, it fills the space where I think money is supposed to go. ;-)

In my wallet, I carry a couple of tinderquick tabs, several feet of jute cord, and a couple of inches of cotton wick with one end charred. The wick is in my wallet but in the outside card sleeve. In that same sleeve is a card with spiderwire rolled on it. Also have a brass sparklite and a fresnel lens in my wallet.

These things all fit in the little dead spaces in my wallet.

Aloha, I like the way you think. I've always thought of my wallet as part of my EDC, not as a way to EDC. It's got important paper (including an I.C.E. card) and plastic but not much else. My wheels are turning.

Thanks for starting the conversation Dan.

Good idea...another option instead of Vaseline is Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm. It's less likely to run (higher melting point) and can burn 1-2 mins.

Thanks bacpacjac. I guess part of it for me is that I always have certain things on me when I am out and about in an urban setting. My wallet is one of them. Some times, I feel like just stopping what I am doing and taking a hike somewhere, so it is good to have some stuff on me and some stuff with me.

Thanks for the comments and I'll have to try the beeswax.
My thinking goes like this... So one is never dissapointed.
For emergenciy/survival situations "keep it REAL and keep it SIMP"

Hi DanC

Welcome to the forum

One variation of your idea is to use alcohol wipes. They are as flat as they can get, ignite easily, and can sanitize as well.
