This seems to assume tracking is an art and not a science, and that only artists as opposed to scientists can be trackers. I will have to think about that.
Would we then be talking about artisan trackers versus scientist trackers?
As others have already said. Tracking is both an art and a science. I am not an expert tracker by any means, however I get curious enough to learn and try to interpret tracks we come across. Also if time permits, I attempt to follow the tracks for a short while.
I find that the scientific reasons as to why animals (and humans) follow a certain path or trail is very valid, however to think past the science to develop your own intuition and thought processes to help you better understand what you are following is the art of tracking.
