If you do a wikipedia search for "GI Issue Glasses" there is a subsection that reads...
"BCG's (Birth Control Glasses) is a nickname given to the glasses by service members believe that while wearing the glasses, it is impossible to attract the opposite sex because of their unflattering appearance."
