Just to add to Bruce's comments.
Vilhjalmur Stefansson is a colorful (and controversial) person in Arctic history.
Stefansson authored many books that offer, at times a fascinating look into the early years of Artic exploration and the people who inhabit the region. Original hard copies of his books are rare, however some reprints and others are available on
Amazon.com. Also
Archive.org has scanned copies of the original books for download.
The controversy of Stefansson comes from the ill-fated voyage of the
Karluk. One of the most notable survivors of the Karluk was
Ada Blackjack.
I also own a book written about
Ada Blackjack (available at Amazon.com.) The book is written partly from info in Blackjack's diaries and is a very compelling read (bit dry at times) of survival that IMO is one of the greatest survival stories of all time.
