hey dudes. i haven't done a real thorough search to see if somebody already suggested this, so sorry if it's repetitive. anyway, i used to keep a PSK in the traditional altoids tin, but that just didn't seem to water-tight or durable to me. i got one of the small otter boxes (after having seen what bigger ones that i have can stand up to) and i'm now using that as the container. it's waterproof(bouyant when fully packed too), and definitely crushproof (and in high-visibility yellow!). the inside volume is a little bit bigger than the tin, which can be looked at as good or bad (of course, i filled it so much that i have to put a strap around the outside to keep it sealed : ) ). i even found a small lockblade that's made out of two flat pieces that i can fit in there with everything else. i just thought some of you guys might want to check it out. the box is here

Actually, the Randall's Adventure Training kit reviewed by Doug here uses the same type of Otter box, and he discusses the pros and cons of having such a robust (and expensive to me) container to house your PSK.

Thats what I use to hold my PSK. I like it better than the altoids tin becuase it is water proof already and easier to get into. Plus, the ability to stand on it doesn't hurt either.

The only draw back is that it isnt very pocketable, compared to the Altiods tin. So I carry it in my work bag, which is always around me and when I go to the field I have another that I carry for that!

hmm those pelican cases look like they might be better because the latch goes across most of the edge. the only problem i have with the otter box is that, with so much stuff in there, the front 2 corners spread apart. i'm not sure if that made it lose the seal, but i put a strap around just so i wasn't risking it. has anybody tried the pelican cases?
