Yesterday morning our area encountered the storms that devastated much of the southern states dumping a fair amount of rain and flooding many areas. I don’t know how much more unprepared and foolhardy you could have been, but the male victim we rescued yesterday afternoon comes real close to an all time winner:

I suppose he thought wearing appropriate clothing, wearing a life jacket, and carrying any sort of emergency gear would have ruined his kayaking experience?

MSP interviewed him; I stayed away so I don’t know what was his justification for the lack of a PFD and his choice of clothing. Usually Maryland Natural Resources Police would cite him for lack of a PFD, but I am not sure they were ever notified, since Lake Linganore is a private manmade lake.

No offense to anyone, but looks like natural selection was yet again averted.

We had a couple novice "sea" kayakers in the Yough River at 7' above normal stage, one died. this is class 3-4 whitewater.

Unbelievable. [shakes head] Of course you want to look your best for a rescue.
