Yes, given the picture painted by critics, which represents the present environment as a cross between a toxic waste dump and a cesspool, a whole lot of people seem to be living an exceptionally long time. It is a bit of a poser.

Reminds me of a cartoon I once saw. One caveman was saying to the other, "Our food is pure and natural, our streams are free of chemicals, our air is unpolluted...so why are we only living to 23?"

Reminds me of my great-grandfather. Guy smoked a pipe and drank two shots of whiskey every day (he would say, with his thick Serbian accent: "one in the morning to start the motors, and one at night to stop.") Lived to be 95 years old.

Myself....I'm just happy if I make it to the weekend. whistle

Edit: On a side note, the guy was a machinist at the Elizabeth, NJ Singer Sewing machine factory for very long time. During WWII the he went from making sewing machines to making 1911 pattern handguns....quite the change for the old guy.

I like it!

Similar to what I told my wife once - screw the nursing home. Drop my demented body off in the woods, face me west to watch the sunset, and let me turn into bear poop.

Is it really a good thing we live so long? Literally this morning, I finished my 3rd reading of One Second After . Of all the PAW books I have read, this one is by far the most emotionally charged towards the elderly and sick. It illuminates just how much we are dependent on medicine to live a normal life and an extended one at that. Just sayin'...
