I'm sitting in my car, near the regional airport on high ground, trapped by flooded roads. Northwest Arkansas had has more than a foot of rain. Trying to make it home I drove through some standing water but declined to be a fool and drive into running water. I was shocked at how many people are so desperate they are driving through it.

My son had to cut some neighbor's fences to allow their trapped cows to get out of chest deep water.

He watched a pickup truck try to cross a flooded bridge. The truck's backend broke loose and turned him sideways but he managed to make it through.

Take a look at the radar from the Tulsa office of National Weather Service. We're going to be pounded for the whole night.

And I'll sit here happily safe in my little car. Warm, full belly, prepared.

Wow, Newsman, that's a hair-raising situation. Good call on staying put.

Kudos to your son for stepping up and cutting those fences.

Be safe, and give us updates when you can.

Desperado, yes, the airport just west of Cave Springs.

We set for about an hour until airport police released us to take a roundabout way to town.

TV reports U.S. Highway 62 west of Fayetteville still closed.

The water's gone down in the upper areas of the watersheds, but the downstream areas remain in extreme flood. One river running west into Oklahoma (Illinois river, same one that closed US 62) exceeded it's all-time record crest over in Oklahoma.

With rain in the forecast for the next 5 days flash flood chance remains high.

I spent the winter of 2009/2010 in the RV park at The Creeks Golf Course.

I am in the wireless industry, and worked up there for a good part of the time that winter.

Ice storms and all.

Good luck! (probably a little after the fact now)

If the water was chest high on the cattle, how high was it on your son?

Edit:Is that anywhere near the damn that they're predicting to fail? Poplar bluff, MO.

MDinana, the water was about 3 feet deep -- the average cow is about the same height as a person.

Luckily the cattle were out of the current; my son drove up on a 4-wheeler as close as he could, then waded to the fence and cut the wires. He said the cows didn't take much persuading to convince to go through the gap.

The levee failure is all the way across the state from us -- but suffering from the same type storms -- thunderstorm trains, one right after the other.

The farm adjacent to our farm recorded 18 inches of rain from Friday to last night. We're supposed to get rain for the next couple days, then over the weekend again.

On the bright side of things, our ponds are full and the grass is going to produce some well-watered, great hay this year!

I hear you loud and clear. There are a number of communities in my Province that have declared states of emergency because of the spring melt. Most of the southern part of the province is experiencing it's second worst flood while those in the Qu'Appelle valley system are in the worst in record history type of flood. Some people (mostly First Nations) have been told that it may be WEEKS before they can get back to their community. Other people have had the summer cabins turned into cabins "IN THE LAKE" instead by the lake. But by and large the damage this time around has been largely contained even with the washed out roads.

Some of the water flows out of the Souris river system and down to the Devil's Lake area in North Dakota then flows back up north across the border to Winnipeg. It is estimated that many farmers will not be able to plant a crop again this year with the fields so wet.

The next big stage is when the mountain melt waters from the Rockies filter through the Province in June. The N & S Saskatchewan rivers will be hitting all-time peaks.

meh... so much for global warming and drying! We had two of the wettest and coldest years on record in 2009 and 2010. In my job - I manage a number of buildings for my company. I've approved several requests for new sump pumps, got damage control companies on speed dial whilst keeping an eye on the most sensitive properties. But at least we haven't got the tornadoes yet this spring like you southerners -- keep safe please.
