For my smaller stuff (fire kit, emergency food and FAK) I used storage boxes from Plano. These are hard, o-ring sealed boxes, similar to Otterboxes, but a little less bulky and a little less expensive. I pick them up at the local Bass Pro Shop during their fishing sales.

They are used a lot for fishing tackle and such. I have used them for my archery gear for years and really like them. It helps the anal retentive part of me keep my gear organized.
