Hello.

It is very easy to shift your RSK mk5 into a close combat defensive weapon such a push dagger:

According to me, a survival knife has to be as polyvalent as possible...

Wow, good one man. Never thought of that. Looks like the bottom of the handle's upward curve is what locks the sticks in place.

While I never liked Punch knives cuz you can easily break and twist your fingers if all I had to defend myself was a Mk5 Its not a bad idea.

Okay, maybe I'm old school, but IMO if you have time/opportunity to whittle tiny sticks, you should be able to whittle a larger stick. Like a walking staff. And a stout staff in the hands of someone who knows its capabilities, even at a most basic level, is better than any close-up blade, by several orders of magnitude. Reach = advantage.

Generally, the point of small but effective tools in a survival kit is their ability to create larger, more effective tools from the materials at hand. Close combat is pretty low on the list of things to *really* worry about (though I concede the world also offers nasty little surprises).

Anyway, that's my 2c.

Thanks to all for your answear and advices.

Of course you're right, Dougwalkabout. The "mk5 push dagger" is just an idea, an option... In a case of self defense, surprise may be a "+", and there is no surprise with a stick. And no problem to me quit a stick in the hand of an "average women" for an exemple. And almost no risk.

To quit a push dagger in the same hands is more difficult...

But as I said it's just an idea ...
