Rand Corporation has published a book and a free downloadable PDF on surviving terrorist attacks.

The book, "Individual Preparedness and Response to Chemical, Radiological, Nuclear, and Biological Terrorist Attacks," is linked here.

The PDF quick guide, which I have downloaded already, is available on this page.

Thanks, Craig - I downloaded this and it looks like a good read, with some useful info. Appendix B is particularly interesting - a quite extensive list of resources and URLs.

At the simplest level, they provide the following four "overarching goals" they developed to be simple enough for anyone to memorize and take action on:

"Chemical Attack: Find clean air quickly.

Radiological Attack: Avoid inhaling dust that could be radioactive.

Nuclear Attack: Avoid radioactive fallout—evacuate the fallout zone quickly or, if not possible, seek best available shelter.

Biological Attack: Get medical aid and minimize further exposure
to agents."

Anyway, lots more to the document. Thanks for letting us know about this.

- Steve

Give me a a break. 99% of all terrorosts attacks don't involve VX gas or atomic bombs but instead much more prosaic materials like chemical fertilizer, LPG bottles and nails and nuts, and most take the form of bomb cars/boats, suicide people (yup, even girls, preferably pregnant, cause they can choose if to die in the hands of her own brothers or die in the name of some "struggle") and their targets are buses, shopping centers and discos.

That guide to survive a biological, atomic & chemical attack is cool, no doubt, but look at real world stuff.

dBu24:

I have seen it many times on the posts in this forum that; "If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail."

Your reasoning is correct only up to a point. The newer terrorists will be smarter and will more often come from internal sources then anything happening today. It is better to prepare for the more advanced weapons of terror than to try and run out to buy the information and equipment after it has happened.

Enjoy the holidays all!
