Yes.
My wife's Nukalert is also silent.
North America is SO FAR AWAY and the Nukalert is so insensitive that I think it's silly to even check.
BTW- We've had fallout before. (not that power plant contamination is quite "fallout")
The class ahead of me in nuclear power training learned to take surface contamination swipes on the hoods of cars in the parking lot. (training was for how to get the right swiped area to read)
The Chinese had done an above-ground nuclear weapons test a week or two earlier and the atmospheric fallout in New York was measurable. Consider the difference in dispersion between a bomb blowing junk into the atmosphere and ordinary surface level winds scattering radioactive particles.
The Press is way overboard on this because they can't do math and get paid for hype.
