I'd suggest a clip on watch band compass. I've been wearing <br>one for the past 2 years or so with no complaints. I use the <br>SUUNTO; I did have one develop a bubble. I emailed SUUNTO <br>and they replaced it without any fuss. I have yet to rip or <br>shear off the compass from the band, so I think they're a good <br>choice.<br>YMMV

This is, of course, the brand that I wasn’t too impressed with, based on a couple that developed bubbles just sitting in a drawer.<br><br>Interesting that they list different qualities in each size- that’s an unusual approach. Comparing pictures and specs, it looks like the ones I ripped out of the thermometer key fobs are 14mm “AA”. Maybe they’ll do better than the watchband compasses that failed- I don’t remember them in enough detail to guess which grade they might have been, other than that they were liquid filled, and the “B” quality compasses on this site don’t seem to be.<br><br>And they have a 10mm compass. That’s interesting. Ever smaller, ever lighter.. doesn’t have luminous points, though…<br>

This is probably old news, but you mentioned an availability problem<br>with the small button compasses for the personal kit. I just found<br>that REI sells a small thermometer/liquid compass zipper pull<br>(http://www.rei.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=748&prmenbr=8000). <br><br>The compass is about 8 or 9 mm (haven't measured it), and secured by<br>double-sided tape. It is easily removed with fingernails.<br><br>Seems decent, but I'm not particularly compass expert.<br>
