In a real survival situation you should be overjoyed to have any knife. Given it may be all you have you're not going to throw away a $5 knife because it isn't good enough.
While I agree with you completely I still would have to say that for a 400$ Kit with items of such poor quality is still wrong. Its not about what you will end up with its about what you will obtain currently to hopefully end up with. To Throw 400$ away and still be poorly prepared is sad when as you already put you can purchase great items for good prices.
