I'm looking around for a beginner's survival guide. I would like it to be waterproof, perhaps with laminated pages. It should be small enough that I would carry it every day and have a decent-sized typeface, the kind the average person would not have to squint to read.

I've read about the American Survival Guide (ASG) Survival Pamphlet on one of the older forums on this site, and I've heard about wallet-sized survival guides, but I have yet to find any on the Web.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Craig

There are several good flash card type sets, and books are numerous.I've realized that in any study several sources will confirm, contradict and fill in the ommissions and shortcomings of the others.Best field notes are the ones in your memory from actual study and training.I recovered a pilot's body from a fatal crash. The manual was between his legs, opened on the pages discussing recovery from a spin.

The SAS Pocket Survival Guide from Collens Gem is one of the better small books. It can be purchased from Brigade Quartermasters, www.actiongear.com

So he was in the midst of crashing and trying to read about how to save himself at the same time? Strikes me as a case of too little, WAY too late.

Craig,
Campmor sells a 5 card laminated set of survival instructions that are pretty good (cost around $5). The type is small, though. But, it covers quite a bit of information. I carry a set in my notesafe 3X5 canvas note pad cover (from Brigade Quartermaster, around $10), and you never know that they are there. Brunton makes a 4 card set that you can purchase from REI (around $3) that is pretty limited on information, but does have a handy 2" X 3" magnifying lens that you can use to read the ones from Campmor. :)
I have the small SAS guide printed by Collins Gem and sold through Brigade Quartermaster. Great information, but it would be nearly impossible to carry in your pocket daily......unless you wear cargo pants every day.
