I suspect that will be immaterial when they visit the lab and see the charred workbenches and shards of glassware embedded in the drywall, that is if the ever-present tinge of sulfer in the air hasn't seeped into the office area yet.

The company I work for just got bought by a much big oil company. New boss, new rules, new headcount, not much goodness.

I wish you well mate! I had the same scenario last year and they ended up using us to get through the transition and getting rid of the senior/highest paid/longest senority employees. We were really abused because we could have been left with the original company and still be employed with all seniority. The new guys knew they did not want all of us, they just wanted the extra manpower for a few months to make their life easier. They planned on thinning the herd. They did not give the personal lives of anyone of us any consideration at all, NONE.

So let us hope that despite all the new rules and management that you can hold on to your job and continue to feed the family.

Myself, I was old enough to retire and had a full military retirement as well. All in, I am glad I do not have to work for the needy and greedy anymore, I gave at the office!

Thanks for the well wishes, friends. No really worries though, my research group should be safe for at least a year, God willing.
