The new owners of my workplace have greatly restricted any non-work related internet usage. This means my response time as a mod is going to be slowed down some. Please take that into account when requesting my help or alerting me to a problem.

I'll be approving new members around 6pm Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri, much later on Thurs (volleyball night), and whenever I have a chance over the weekend.

I overheard the VP say "Our insurance rates are too high, we may need to fire some people." Since then I've been on my best behavior...because I figure getting rid of me would help on BOTH counts.

Blast, what exactly (if you don't mind sharing) is your current job type? Perhaps there are a people here that can help put a net under you. I mean, we are all about preparedness here!

I'm surprised that this company is just now adding net restrictions. Most large companies have had all sorts of Internet restrictions in place for a long time.

I understand the reasons, network security and primarily to keep employees with their nose to the grindstone and not checking up on their favorite websites.

A new trend is to not allow any Internet access from a normal corporate network with some exceptions for certain people that have to use the Internet for the business.

Internet usage on corporate-owned computers and smartphones can be monitored without regard to whether you're connected through the corporate network. Anonymous proxy server usage can frequently be blocked and can always be logged. Be sure to keep these things in mind and keep yourselves out of trouble.
