I just saw some videos about new nanocoating technology that results in liquid repellent products without compromising breathability - the obvious survival link I think is application to outdoor clothing and rain gear, and maybe to outdoor electronics gear, such as GPS. Frankly I find the development interesting enough to share it here - there are demo videos and descriptions from the vendor, P2i, which I hasten to add *I have no financial interest in or any promotional interest whatsoever*. http://www.p2i.com/

There is mention there that Timberland and K-Swiss are releasing products using the technology as early as Spring 2011. Not sure about product releases in other categories (electronics), but expect to see this more and more in the future.

Welcome to the 21st Century!

Sounds like a further progression of a similar DRW technology used by Nextec EPIC fabrics with even better durability of the DRW coating.

OMG, Hiking in jeans, yep and other day hikers look at you like your a complete amateur. grin

I also have an Epic Sierra Jacket which is lightweight, very breathable, windproof and easily sheds light rain and is quite resistant to 'wetting' out. Being a soft shell material also means it is quite comfy to wear as well. It is excellent for those colder potentially rainy days out on the bicycle.
