I just saw some videos about new nanocoating technology that results in liquid repellent products without compromising breathability - the obvious survival link I think is application to outdoor clothing and rain gear, and maybe to outdoor electronics gear, such as GPS. Frankly I find the development interesting enough to share it here - there are demo videos and descriptions from the vendor, P2i, which I hasten to add *I have no financial interest in or any promotional interest whatsoever*.
http://www.p2i.com/There is mention there that Timberland and K-Swiss are releasing products using the technology as early as Spring 2011. Not sure about product releases in other categories (electronics), but expect to see this more and more in the future.
Welcome to the 21st Century!
