$20: 2 AA and 2 AAA mini maglites with batteries for all 4. Resistance is futile!

Maybe for me, since I have LED drop-ins ready to, uh, drop in. And I confess a bit of nostalgia for the brand. But otherwise, old-school incandescent Mags are pretty much doorstops; the world went roaring by while they slept.

With LED drop-ins, those mini-AA's are just perfect for glove box duty: The chance of turning on by accident is nil, they are indestructible and everyone can figure out how to use them.

It's pretty depressing how they seem to have completely sat on their laurels. The XL from last year was their first new light in ?? years.

The C and D cell Maglites are still pretty useful for household/vehicle flashlight use as the alternatives are still quite expensive. I recently acquired a 3C Maglite after finding some long forgotten (10-15 years old) NiCads C cells (now basically unavailable in the UK for retail due to environmental issues). The C abnd D cell Maglites are pretty heavy duty, rugged and reliable once the incandescent bulb is replaced with a good quality LED bulb such as TTS-3WP (@150 Lumens)

I have even found a supplier for some low cost LSD NiMh C and D cells, about 1/3 the price of Eneloops so a 3D or 4D Maglite might be worthwhile getting as well.

A 4D Maglite with 10,000 mAhr LSD NiMh cells would give approx run time of around 16 hours runtime at 150 Lumen.

Also if you need to charge cells say just before a storm strikes (with consequent rolling power outages) then using a charger such as the Maha C808M 8-Cell Professional Battery Charger will allow you to charge the equivalent of 40 Eneloop AAs using 8 D cells for some cost effective D cell Maglites in around 5 hours.

True. I know that law enforcement and security types used to like them as a behaviour modification tool that also doubled as a light.

I bought several 3AA MagLite LED lights from Sam's last fall at 2 for $12 then bought all they had left at 2 for $7.

They may be old school but at that price mostlyHarmless is right, they are the perfect tool for places where they might get used once a year or less. I even use the one in my household entrance table quite often. It does the job very well.

Ok - I've moved away from maglites, but this is nice...

I`m digging my D-CeLL LED Maglite.

I got the D and AA combo a few months ago then another around XMAS. My only complaint is the AA seems very poorly made, and the light randomly flickers which makes it almost useless. The D is great though!

I got one of the 3 AA early on and it flickered like that. Then I bought one of the double packs sams had a a year or so ago and they are both fine, I wonder if they updated the switch.
