I have a flashlight that I like better than I thought I would:

It's 4 inches long with the face pointing forward. The beam points at 90 degrees to the body, swivels to point in line with the body, and also swivels about the axis of the flashlight 360 degrees. It has a clip, so I can point the beam at 90 degrees and clip the flashlight to my waistband or the neck of my t-shirt and have the beam light the ground ahead of me, or swivel the beam up and clip the light to my hat brim. I can clip it to pretty much anything and have the beam pointed where I need it.

Runs on 2 AAs and has an incandescent bulb.

Although the bulb is incandescent, that means it is in a reflector and shines where I want it to, and it means that colors are more nearly natural at night. I tried to cook chicken at night with and LED and it looked raw no matter how well done it was. Sometimes colors are important, and LEDs screw them up.
